Crestview / Brentwood
North Central AustinMedian ~$655K to $673K
Neighboring areas that hold the line on central value: post-war bungalows, good walkability and a relaxed community feel.
History
Crestview and Brentwood to its south began developing in earnest after World War II. Alfred B. Beddow and Ray Yates started Crestview in 1947 on Frank and Julia Richcreek's former dairy farm to meet postwar demand for affordable housing. The Richcreek farmhouse was moved in 1947 to 1405 Justin Lane, where it still stands.
Where it is
Crestview sits in ZIP 78757, bounded roughly by Anderson Lane, North Lamar, Justin Lane and Burnet Road, with Brentwood just south. Crestview Station on Capital MetroRail opened in 2010 at North Lamar and Airport and spurred the Midtown Commons development.
Living there
Expect single-family bungalows, mid-century ranch homes and some apartments on tree-lined streets. The 1952 Crestview Shopping Center is still the neighborhood's center, fronted by the Wall of Welcome mosaic, and Top Notch has been serving charcoal-broiled burgers since 1971.
