Tarrytown

Central West AustinMedian ~$1.7M

Established luxury with 1940s homes next to new builds, strong walkability and a spot between Lady Bird Lake and Lake Austin.

History

The land was once Woodlawn, a 365-acre estate with a mansion designed in 1853 by Abner H. Cook, the builder behind the Texas Governor's Mansion. Laguna Gloria and the Walsh House are among the historic homes still standing.

Where it is

Tarrytown is usually defined as Enfield Road to the south (some maps use Lake Austin Boulevard), West 35th Street to the north, MoPac to the east and Lake Austin to the west. Exposition Boulevard, Enfield Road and Windsor Road are the main streets, and Tarrytown Center and Casis Village are the local shopping spots.

Living there

Expect big pecan trees, quiet streets, older custom homes and a lot of renovation and infill. Casis Elementary and O. Henry Middle School are in the neighborhood, and Deep Eddy Pool and the lake are close. School zones in this part of town vary by address, so check before you buy.
