West Lake Hills

West AustinMedian ~$1.89M

Suburban-estate feel with rolling hills and views, prized for space and for access to Eanes ISD.

History

West Lake Hills incorporated as a village on September 9, 1953, and quickly became a home base for people working in Austin. In the early 1960s residents chipped in voluntarily to buy the city's first fire engine. The population grew from 714 in 1960 to 3,444 at the 2020 census.

Where it is

It is its own small city about six miles west of downtown Austin, on the edge of the Hill Country. It covers about four square miles along Bee Cave Road and Redbud Trail, with roughly 1,000 homes and 200 businesses. The airport is about 20 minutes away.

Living there

The city is protective of its rural, wooded character: winding, hilly roads, big lots and views. It is part of Eanes ISD, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt and Barton Springs are close by for swimming and trails.
