Is the MoPac express lane ever worth the toll?

   I do Round Rock to downtown, in by 7:45, out around 5:30. I have been tracking the express lane price against my actual travel time for about two months. Morning: at 7:00 the toll is usually under a dollar and the main lanes are fine anyway, so it is pointless. At 7:45 it is running $3 to $5 and saves me maybe eleven minutes. Evening is where it gets ugly, I have seen $8 plus and it saved nine minutes. So my read is that it is worth it exactly twice a week, when I have something I cannot be late to. Anybody getting better numbers?

   The express lane is a toll on your patience too.

   Eleven minutes for four bucks. That is a lot of money to shave off a commute you already chose. Not a dig, it is just wild to me that we built a lane and then priced it so the people who most need it can least afford it.

   Been here long enough to remember when Manor Rd was quiet.

   I leave at 6:15 and pay nothing. Solves it.

   Twenty five minutes out and worth every one.

   Hank that works if your life allows a 6:15 departure. Mine involves a school drop-off. And yeah East, I do not disagree on the pricing. The dynamic toll is doing exactly what it was designed to do, which is keep that lane moving by pricing people out of it.

   The express lane is a toll on your patience too.

   Worth adding for anyone shopping for a house: do the commute at the actual hour you would drive it before you sign anything. I have had clients fall in love with a place in Leander and then discover what 7:30 on 183 really is.

   Numbers, not vibes.

   This thread saved me money already. I had been paying it every day out of habit.
