Summer bass patterns on Lake Travis and early archery prep

   Water surface temperature hit 88 degrees yesterday near Cow Creek. Need to fish deep ledge drops around 35 to 45 feet. Deep crankbaits and heavy drop shots working best early morning. Lake level is down to 638 feet. Also starting to pull out the bow setup for early archery prep. Anyone else shifting focus yet? 🐟🐟

   Already checked the trail cams up near Llano... feeder was knocked over by a sounder of hogs again... cleared out the pop-up blind last weekend... need to re-string the bow before TPWD opening day... Lake Travis bass are too small to waste bait on anyway...

   Aim small, miss small. Llano lease life.

   Used to fish Lake Travis back when you could launch at Pace Bend without waiting an hour in line. Water is way too crowded now with party barges out of Hurst Harbor. For bow season prep, do not forget to check your trailer tires before hauling down Highway 71. Sun rots them fast in August.

   Been here long enough to remember when Manor Rd was quiet.

   Bow setup check is simple. Inspect riser and limbs for hairline cracks. Check string for fraying. Apply bow wax along length, avoiding serving. Check cam alignment. Sight in at 20 yards first before stepping back. Repair target backstop if straw is degraded.

   Measure twice, cut once, call Frank if it leaks.

   Cow Creek ledge gave up a four pounder at 42 feet this morning. Deep thermocline is tight this year. Bass are plenty big if you know where to drop a jig. Lake depth sitting right at 638 feet. 🐟

   Four pounds isn't a lunker... real meat goes in the freezer come October... TPWD tags arrived in the mail yesterday... target practice at 40 yards in this humidity is pure misery...

   Re-stringing compound bow requires bow press. Do not attempt with ratchet straps. Replaced cracked limb pocket last season on old bow. Greased pivot points. Silenced string with rubber dampeners. Ready for target practice.

    Reminds me of buying outdoor gear at Callahan's back when it was still open on Highway 183. You could actually get good advice without someone trying to sell you a two-thousand-dollar carbon fiber setup. Everything now is overpriced and built out of plastic.

    Callahan's is still open out on Highway 183 near the airport. You're thinking of the old McBride's off Lamar.
