  It is really not that complicated if you plan ahead. Just budget extra time to walk across UT's campus to 2001 Robert Dedman Drive. Give yourself an extra half hour and you will be fine for the 7:45 PM start.

  Branch Park Pavilion is an easy place to walk around once you get there. If you are bringing kids for the interactive fan zone, it should be a fun setup. Just get there early at 10:00 AM so you have plenty of time for the simulators before it gets packed.

  If you want to avoid the worst of the parking garage queues right at 310 West Willie Nelson Boulevard, park a few blocks north or west and take a brisk ten-minute walk. Coming down Lavaca or Guadalupe gets you right into the district without stuck turn lanes. It is a lovely area to walk around right before 7:00 PM if the evening heat is not too brutal.

  Good luck avoiding the heat in august. it is going to be 105 every single day. If you want free, check out the central texas custom bicycle festival on saturday august 1st. starts at noon over at the south austin recreation center on cumberland rd. free and open to the public. they have custom lowrider bikes, scale models, vintage strollers, live music, bicycle swap meet. my kids loved looking at the lowriders a few years back.

  The LINE Austin is super easy to spot right on East Cesar Chavez Street near the lake. If you want to skip the vehicle hassle entirely, just walk or ride a bike down the trail to get there.

  Definitely bring water and stay hydrated. August 30 in Austin at 3:00 PM in an open venue is standard summer heat, and adding capsaicin on top of that is serious business. Pace yourself while walking around the grounds and casting your votes.

  If you are driving down from North Austin or Round Rock, cut over west and take Menchaca down past Ben White, then head over to South Congress near Stassney. It avoids the worst of the highway backups.

  If you want to avoid the worst of the 183 logjam, you can cut across using Berkman Drive through Mueller and come up Cameron Road from the south. The Asian American Resource Center is a great location for this kind of community festival. Looking forward to seeing the fashion shows and live music on August 7th!

  NewInTravisCo, do not apologize at all! Like RedRiverRoadie said, it is completely free to the public. You can just show up at 12:00 PM to check out the custom lowrider bikes, vintage strollers, scale models, live music, and the swap meet. Bring plenty of water since it is August!

  Just saw the announcement for the Central Texas Custom Bicycle Festival. It is scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 12:00 PM over at the South Austin Recreation Center, which is located at 1100 Cumberland Road, Austin, TX 78704. The listing says it is a free public celebration featuring custom lowrider bikes, vintage strollers, scale models, live music, and a bicycle swap meet. Looks like a fun event for the neighborhood.

• Franklin vs interstellar - what is worth the line right now?

  Whoever wrote that article is making stuff up. There are no reservations at Interstellar. It is counter service. You walk in, look at the big blackboard menu, order cafeteria style, and sit at a wooden table. You wear whatever you want. I go in shorts and a running shirt after hitting the trails. They do have back-to-back Michelin stars for 2024 and 2025 hanging on the wall, but it is still a barbecue joint in a strip mall off 620. Open Wed-Sun 11 to 4 or until sold out. No alcohol served there either, though Slackers Brewing is right next door if you want a beer while you check out the pits in the parking lot.

  Krause Springs is a fantastic call by Tico, just remember it is cash only at the gate so plan ahead. Another solid option is driving down to San Marcos and getting in at Sewell Park or Rio Vista Park. The San Marcos River stays 72 degrees year round and moves steadily so it stays very clean.

  First piece of advice is to completely forget about the Campbell access point or Twin Falls on the Greenbelt right now. The creek is bone dry by August. If you want a sanity-saving option, try Deep Eddy Pool right when they open at 6 AM, or head over to Jessica Hollis Park below Mansfield Dam. The water there comes out from the bottom of Lake Travis so it is ice cold, clear, and stays relatively calm early in the day.
