Hi all. Landed in north Austin off Braker in March. Job moved me down and I knew basically nobody. The heat was worse than people warned me about, honestly. August felt personal. But I have gotten used to doing everything before 10am and it is fine now. Still trying to figure out where to actually spend time. I work from home three days a week so I am not meeting anybody at the office. Any advice for someone starting from zero up here?

Welcome. North Austin gets dunked on but you are near some of the best food in the city. Get up to the Chinatown center on Lamar and just start working through it.

    Migas, flour, no salsa needed.

For meeting people, honestly a running or cycling group is the cheat code. Show up three times and you have people. There are groups that start from Brushy Creek near you.

See you at the 3rd crossing.

The heat thing sorts itself out in year two. You stop planning around temperature and start planning around shade. Also if you are on Braker, learn the frontage roads now, not during a wreck on 35.

Been here long enough to remember when Manor Rd was quiet.

This is all genuinely helpful, thank you. Going to try the Brushy Creek group Saturday.
